Discover our journey and what drives us

We are a team who are passionate about improving the lives of those with inflammatory skin conditions. The TissueMetrics founders have been working together for the past 7 years and developed a range of technologies that can be used to help individuals and their health. Together we have worked on our acoustic sensing technology and are undergoing the exciting progression in taking this to clinical settings and spinning out Tissue Metrics.
The work that formed TissueMetrics was developed at Heriot-Watt University in the Soft Tissue and Biomedical Devices Laboratory, which is headed by Co-Founder Michael Crichton. Within this lab, the team strived to develop understanding about how tissues change with disease and how this might be used to develop new technologies. Co-Founders Sara Medina-Lombardero and Connor Bain completed their doctoral studies within the lab and were instrumental in translating the acoustic sensor technology from the bench to where we are now. We have always been a diverse and collaborative team and worked closely with our clinical collaborators (particularly Prof Richard Weller at the University of Edinburgh) to ensure that we deliver technologies that reduce the burden on health services.
TissueMetrics has been fortunate to receive funding from both UKRI research councils and from Scottish Enterprise, which has allowed us to tackle many of the most challenging commercial and clinical hurdles until this point. Our next big steps together will be to step beyond the university environment and build partnerships with future customers. We are excited to see this technology move into community settings and ultimately bring dermatology quality measurements into the clinic.
Kind Regards,
TM team
