The science behind our services
————————

Our sensors have been designed to measure the material changes that occur in your skin when there is a change in your health.  You may be wondering, why the material changes?  This is because often the material change in skin (or other parts of the body) are a great way to measure the biological changes in your body.  For example, by measuring the stiffness and fluid content of your skin layers, we can get a good idea whether the barrier function and inflammation are changing (respectively).  This is very important for conditions like eczema where the skin’s ability to form a barrier to the outside world (and often its allergens) is compromised.

The sensing technology that underpins TissueMetrics is very similar to what you have in your headphones or earbuds.  We vibrate the skin using sound waves that we then detect using simple components similar to a microphone.  We have developed an innovative way to analyse these sound waves to identify the material properties of your skin which we can then translate into skin-health metrics.  The data that we collect is unique and allows us to form an understanding of your skin that until now has not been possible.  We’re in the process of demonstrating that the measures we collect are of dermatologist quality, which will allow us to bring this accuracy into the community.  This not only allows skin condition sufferers to receive rapid support locally, but also reduces pressure on dermatologists, for whom there are currently very long waiting lists.
